All of our North American Soay, both lambs and adults alike, descend from registered stock — either SOA-registered or RBST-registered or both. Our animals' ancestors are known and we are proud of the depth and quality of our North American pedigrees.
This fall we bred North American ewes to produce the comparatively rare light phase Soay
informally known as “tan”. If you wish to reserve a tan ewe lamb or ram lamb,
please contact us.
Light phase Soay, British and North American alike, tend to have milk chocolate or
medium brown fleece as lambs, without much highlighting.
As they grow up, the tan lamb's fleece bleaches, resulting in a lovely light beige-colored
animal.
Whether lamb or adult, however, all light phase sheep exhibit the tell-tale signs of this
recessive gene: pale lips,
pale eyelid rims,
sometimes pale skin under the tail, and fleece fibers that are
medium brown (rather than dark brown-black) at the root.
